Procedure for Performing Satyanarayana Puja

1. Preparations:

   • The area is cleaned and decorated.
   • A platform or altar is set up with an idol or picture of Lord Satyanarayana.
   • Items such as fruits, flowers, betel leaves, coconut, turmeric, rice, and sandalwood paste are arranged.
   • A "Kalash" (sacred pot) is placed, representing the deity.

2. Sankalpa (Vow):

   • The Purohit helps the host take a Sankalpa, a formal vow or intention to perform the puja for specific purposes, like overcoming obstacles, fulfilling a wish, or expressing gratitude.

3. Invocation of Lord Ganesha:

   • The puja begins by invoking Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, with mantras and offerings.

4. Invocation of Navagrahas:

   • The nine planets (Navagrahas) are worshipped to seek their blessings and mitigate any astrological imbalances.

5. Main Satyanarayana Puja:

   • The Purohit narrates the Satyanarayana Katha, which includes five chapters describing the stories and significance of the puja.
   • Offerings such as Panchamrit (mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar), banana, and the traditional "Prasadam" (sweet dish) made of jaggery and semolina (rava) are made.
   • Flowers and other sacred items are offered to Lord Satyanarayana while chanting Vishnu mantras.

6. Aarti:

   • The ritual concludes with the singing of devotional hymns and the waving of camphor light (aarti) before the deity.

7. Distribution of Prasadam:

   • The prepared sweet dish is distributed among the devotees as a blessing from Lord Satyanarayana.
