Procedure for Performing Ganapathi Homa

1. Preparations:

   • The venue is thoroughly cleaned, and a sacred area is marked for the homa.
   • A "Homa Kund" (fire altar) is set up, usually square-shaped, and decorated with flowers, rangoli, and other auspicious symbols.
   • The necessary materials are arranged, including ghee, coconut, sesame seeds, jaggery, darbha grass, sacred wood, and Navadhanya (nine types of grains).

2. Purification:

   • The priest purifies the area, the participants, and the items with holy water, turmeric, and sandalwood paste.
   • A "Kalash" (pot filled with water) and mango leaves are placed as a symbol of auspiciousness.

3. Sankalpa (Vow):

   • The host takes a Sankalpa with the guidance of the Purohit, expressing their intention to perform the homa for specific blessings, like removing obstacles, seeking prosperity, or ensuring success.

4. Ganapati Puja:

   • The priest performs a brief Ganapati Puja, invoking Lord Ganesha by chanting mantras and offering flowers, fruits, and durva grass.
   • A Ganesha idol or turmeric paste (symbolizing Ganesha) is worshipped.

5. Homa Fire Invocation:

   • The sacred fire in the Homa Kund is lit using dried wood and camphor while chanting Vedic mantras.
   • The fire is considered an embodiment of Agni Dev (Fire God) and a medium to carry the offerings to the divine.

6. Ganapati Homa:

   • The priest recites specific mantras (like Ganapati Atharvasheersha or Ganapati Gayatri).
   • Offerings such as ghee, sesame seeds, jaggery, and special herbs are placed into the fire while chanting "Om Gan Ganapataye Namaha."
   • Modaks (sweet dumplings, Lord Ganesha’s favorite) are also offered into the fire.

7. Mangala Aarti:

   • The ritual concludes with an aarti (waving of the camphor light) to Lord Ganesha, followed by prayers and blessings.

8. Prasad Distribution:

   • The sacred offerings, including modaks and other sweets, are distributed among the devotees as prasad.
